The WIMBY Pledge

I affirm that I welcome individuals from all walks of life into my neighborhood and community and value human diversity in all its forms. I cherish my right to live according to my own values and beliefs, and I respect the rights of all others to do the same.

I am personally opposed to—and will try to speak out against—discrimination, harassment, and intolerance based on a person’s:

  • Familial Status

  • Marital Status

  • Age

  • Source of Income

  • Student Status

  • Sexual Orientation

  • Gender Identity

  • Gender Expression

  • Military Status

  • Immigration Status

I recognize that I might also hold various prejudices and stereotypes that have developed during my lifetime. Over the next year, I will try to understand better and reverse such personal biases to avoid acting upon them.

I pledge to respect those whose backgrounds and experiences are different from my own by saying, “You are Welcome In My Backyard.”
